1. Introduction

Anylarm is a software application that contributes to more safety, and which runs on the latest generation of smart phones with Windows Mobile 6 Professional®.

The Anylarm software assumes that the smart phone supports GPS functionality and that hence location data can be sent when an alarm is generated. If the phone does not support GPS, an alarm can be generated, but location data will not be forwarded.

Anylarm is ideal for users in (mobile) working environments where a security system with additional functionality decreases stressful situations or for private individuals (such as parents and children) that have a need for security but who do not want to buy a separate device.

Anylarm is also ideal for so called "work alone situations", like evening or night shifts or employees that operate in outside areas.

Anylarm has the following alarm functions:

  • Alarm button on touch screen
  • Alarm through shaking with the mobile phone
  • Sending GPS coordinates when generating alarm
  • A "Proof of Life" interval based alarm
  • Sending an SMS when generating alarm
  • Calling a pre defined Telephone number when generating alarm
  • Tracking option

Anylarm software is available for all phones that run the Windows Mobile 6 Professional® Operating System. Of course the phone should support GPS in order to generate and send the GPS coordinates when an alarm is generated.

Furthermore, the shake option to generate an alarm is currently only supported on the following brands/models:

  • HTC Touch series.
  • Samsung Omnia / Instinct series.

 2. Screens

The Anylarm application consists of various screens. You can switch between the screens, either by pressing the blue buttons on the bottom of the screen, or by using “Menu”. The available screens are:

  • Home
  • My details
  • My position
  • Settings

 2.1. Home

From this screen, an alarm can be generated by pressing the Alarm/Anylarm logo. An alarm sms message is sent and a call is being made to the predefined telephone number  (“Alarm number” on the screen “settings”).

Furthermore, the version of Anylarm is show on this screen.

2.2. My Details

On this screen, the details of the user are displayed and the user can indicate if this information has to be included in the alarm sms messages.

In order to save the data, press the icon of the diskette.

2.3. My Position

In this screen, it is possible to show the GPS coordinates of your current location. “Satellite count” indicates how many satellites are in reach. If no satellites are available, the last known position will be displayed.

By clicking on “Show map” a file is generated which is automatically opened by “Google maps”. “Google maps” needs to be installed on your Phone for this option to work. In order to use “Google maps”, you need a contract that supports voice as well as data transfer.

“Google maps” can be closed by using “Menu”. Choose “Close”.

If you want to forward your position to the person that you have predefined in the Menu “settings” (Alarm number), you can click on “SMS Position”. An sms message is then sent which includes the GPS data.

2.4 Settings

In this screen you define the alarm number. To this (mobile) number, all alarms (calls as well as sms messages) will be generated.

Also the alarm types that you want to use can be defined on this screen.

If your phone has an accelerometer (see introduction for supported brands and models), you can tick the “shake” option.  If you shake the Phone, an alarm will be generated; an sms will be sent and the predefined number will be called. Even the sensibility of the sensor can be adjusted on this screen, by moving the “Sensor Sensitivity” from left (light shake) to right (hard shake).

If you tick “Proof of Life”, you will get a warning after a predefined time frame. You need to respond to this warning within 15 seconds, by pressing the button “Alive!”. If you do not respond, an alarm will be generated, i.e. an sms message will be sent and a call is being generated to the predefined number. Different time intervals can be selected here: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60, 90 of 120 minutes.

If you tick “No Network”, you will receive a warning if the Phone is not in a coverage area of a provider, and hence no alarm can be generated. An acoustic signal is given and in the top right hand corner, a warning appears “No signal!” If you enter a coverage area again, the warning will disappear automatically.

You tick the option “Tracking”, if you automatically want to send your GPS data to the predefined number after a specific time interval, i.e. every  5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60, 90 of 120 minutes.

If you want to save your settings, click on the diskette icon.

3. Installation

In order to install the software, you need to connect your Phone to your PC. On you PC, you need to run either ActiveSync 4.x (for Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (for Windows Vista / 7). Connect the smart Phone to the PC (USB port) and copy the file  “InstallerAnylarm.CAB” to your smart Phone, for example in the directory “\temp”.

Then double click on the file name on your smart phone and follow the instructions.

If Anylarm is started for the first time, an activation screen appears. On this screen, a serial number is displayed. This serial number is used for generating a unique licence code. If you enter the licence code, the Anylarm software will be activated.

Prior to the use and installation of Anylarm, please read the Terms and Conditions in Chapter 5 of this manual.

3.1. How can get my licence code?

Click here to fill in your name, e-mail address and serial number and you will receive your licence code by e-mail within 8 business hours.

By sending the e-mail you agree with the terms and conditions that are set out in chapter 5 of this document: “Terms and Conditions of the Anylarm Software”.

4. Additional options

4.1. Request for SMS with location data

By sending an sms with the text “anylarm” to the Phone that runs Anylarm, an sms is generated automatically with the last known position. This option only functions if this message is sent from the phonenumber that is predefined in the “Settings” screen as “alarm number”.

 4.2. Starting up Anylarm remotely

By sending an sms with the text “anylarm” to the Phone that runs Anylarm, an sms is generated automatically with the last known position.

If Anylarm was not running at that time, it will start automatically after having received the sms. A reply sms will be generated with the last known position. This option only functions if this message is sent from the phonenumber that is predefined in the “Settings” screen as “alarm number”.
